Former Texas, NFL running back Ricky Williams plans to open pot-friendly gym

Ricky Williams says members must have prescription to join

Former Texas Longhorns star and NFL running back Ricky Williams has plans to open the world’s first pot-friendly gym, The Associated Press reports.

The gym, Power Plant Fitness, will allow people to not only smoke marijuana during a workout, but will also have edibles available for those who don’t like smoking.

Williams and business executive Jim McAlpine say that using pot while exercising can help with focus and relaxation.

Members of the gym, which plans to open this year in San Francisco, will need a medical marijuana prescription to join, but that could change if California voters legalize recreational pot in November.

“I think a lot of people buy into the stoner stereotype where guys just sit on the couch, smoke and don’t do anything, and they’re not very motivated,” said Williams. “I found when I was playing football that using cannabis helped me relax physically, relax mentally and even spiritually.”

Williams and McAlpine plan to have the gym up-and-running sometime this year.
