A Young Texan

Alexis Bortell, a young Texan forced to flee the state in order to receive effective treatment for her seizure disorder celebrated one full year without a single seizure yesterday. Alexis’s parents sought refuge in Colorado where physicians were able to successfully treat her seizures with cannabis oil. Cannabis is a plant that can be used responsibly and help those who are suffering from debilitating diseases, including young Texans like Alexis. Just as gun control does not keep guns out of the hands of criminals, prohibition of cannabis does not keep the plant out of the hands of those who would abuse it. It does, however, keep it out of the hands of law abiding citizens who could use it for good. I hope that soon Alexis and her family will be able to come home to Texas without fear of being prosecuted or torn away from her family because of a plant that’s helping her to live a normal life.
